Delivering the future of healthcare: Community Diagnostic Centre

Helix CMS has been awarded and appointed to deliver the prestigious new build Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Scunthorpe.

The state-of-the-art facility located in Scunthorpe’s town centre will positively impact and benefit the local community and is part of the government launch strategy to boost use of independent sector capacity and cut NHS waiting lists.

Designed by Alessandro Caruso Architects (ACA) and delivered in partnership with Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust, the CDC will improve patient physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as provide support for the NHS.

Take a look at the 3D concept design:

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: “I have pledged to cut waiting lists and these new Community Diagnostic Centres will do exactly that.

By offering checks, tests and scans closer to home, we can speed up the diagnosis of illnesses like cancer and heart disease and ensure patients get their treatment quickly.

These centres revolutionise the way the NHS delivers care and crucially, they are saving lives.”

The brand-new facility will create capacity for an additional 146,000 appointments a year for residents to receive tests, scans and checks – removing pressures and keeping pace with rising demand in the region.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This new health centre will have a massive impact on residents’ access to critical health services, further improving health and wellbeing for thousands of people.”

Using our expert healthcare knowledge and experience in delivering specialist healthcare equipment with clinical precision, the CDC will be built and fully fitted with specialist equipment, providing diagnostic services including MRI / CT scanners, ultrasound, X-rays and blood tests.

Chief Executive of Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, Peter Reading, said: “Our priority will always be to provide our patients with excellent standards of care – and we believe that moving some of our diagnostic services out into the community will allow us to do that. Based in the heart of communities, they are making it easier for people to access life-saving checks.”

Operating in parallel to existing diagnostic departments at Scunthorpe General Hospital for inpatients and those requiring emergency care, patients will be referred to the centre by their GP or consultant.

We’re at the forefront of delivering conscious construction projects, building outstanding facilities for the people and community in the region, ensuring the future of healthcare is continually improving. The £19m ‘one-stop shop’ to cut NHS waiting times is another brilliant purpose-led project to add to our portfolio.
