Equity in our workplace: International Women’s Day 2024

Our celebration of the wonderful women in our team extends all year round - inspiring inclusion to help forge a better, more inclusive place to work.

In a traditionally male-dominated industry, women make up around 15% of the construction workforce across the UK. This International Women’s Day, we’re recognising and celebrating the invaluable contributions of women in construction and within our brilliant team, who are breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes and shaping the future one project at a time.

Diversity isn’t a buzzword; it’s a fundamental pillar of progress within our industry. Women bring unique perspectives, skills and talents to the construction industry, empowering diversity and enriching teams to drive positive change. From finance management, quantity surveyors and development managers, women at Helix CMS are making their mark across every aspect of our project delivery.

As experts in delivering value and purpose in construction, we know that there’s more to construction than bricks and mortar. From the point of inception, when a building is still just an idea in someone’s mind, right through to completion and handing over a project, there is so much that goes on behind the scenes to get to that point, and that takes a team, made up of brilliant people.

We are proud that our delivery team is made up of skilled, expert women who think progressively and are driving Helix CMS forward and we support them on their journey to achieving greatness, professionally and personally.

Women in construction are inspiring the next generation of female talent. By showcasing diverse roles and providing apprenticeship opportunities, we’re supporting young women to pursue careers in construction – creating and nurturing a more inclusive and equitable industry for future generations.

Helix CMS understand the role equity needs to play in supporting women in construction to achieve their career goals.

Equality is often an overused word when considering women in the workplace, however at Helix CMS we focus on the positive impact equity can have on encouraging female talent in our company. What we mean by equity is the consideration that different people need different support to succeed.

Equality assumes everyone gets the same, equity assumes everyone gets what they need. We acknowledge that women at different stages in their career need different support to make their job work for them, and we encourage open and transparent conversations about what that looks like for each individual employee.

Flexible working hours for example, to do the school runs or working from home to support family appointments and commitments. We also support non-fixed working days to offer further flexibility with personal commitments. As well as, flexible project roles to enable individual strengths to shine. We believe in promoting gender equity within the workplace, enabling everyone to excel in their role within the company.

We promise to deliver every project to the highest standard, through transparent, innovative and modern ways of thinking and working and this includes diversifying our workforce. We make it our mission to recruit on our values, not gender.
