The brief
A design and build project to extend the existing ACU to enable the pharmacy to relocate. Complete internal alterations and refurbishment of the AMU.
The challenge
The robot installation brought about some challenges with the zero-tolerance construction of the floor. The specialist equipment required a very precise levelled floor, and it took a team of experienced Helix employees to work together to ensure its execution.
The response
Work to complete the project included:
✓ Installation of a state-of-the-art dispensary robot into the ACU
✓ Installation of a night safe, packaging and dispensary equipment and other specialist pharmacy equipment
✓ Designed and implemented an innovative cubicle door solution to fulfil client aspirations. The top hung sliding cubicle doors were sourced and manufactured to work within the existing design
✓ Construction of new stud partition walls and suspended ceilings to set out the room design and layout
✓ Mechanical and electrical installation
✓ Finished with replastering and decorating throughout
✓ Sourcing and completion of all floor finishes
✓ Bespoke hospital furniture including nurse desks, workstations, and cabinets
✓ IPS hygiene solutions including hand wash basins and toilets were fitted throughout
✓ Full mechanical and electrical installation, including the installation of a Viessmann specialist cold room
The highlight
The onsite team delivered a complex and challenging build especially with regards to mechanical and electrical components. The project required the team to incorporate existing M&E infrastructure alongside a new system and integrate them together. This required a skilled team of engineers and close monitoring of timescales by the site managers to ensure the delivery of project milestones on time and within budget.
“I am delighted and proud to be involved with such dedicated teams who have delivered the upgrade of the AMU scheme. I really appreciate all the hard work and commitment you and your teams have given to deliver the first phase of the Ground Floor redevelopment for Hull University Teaching Hospitals. The new layout and facilities will significantly improve the patient experience and help improve the waiting times within the Emergency Department.”
