Covid-19 Ward 36, Hull Royal Infirmary

Location: Hull Royal Infirmary, Hull, East Yorkshire

Client: Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Value: £700k

Timeframe: 16 Weeks

The brief

To build a new COVID-19 fast-track isolation and assessment ward specially for COVID-19 patients.

The challenge

This project was live throughout the COVID-19 global pandemic, and therefore was being delivered against a set of moving client requirements, as the hospital was reacting to the pandemic as it happened, principally the need to isolate and segregate patients.

This meant that the agility and flexibility of Helix CMS was very important. Infection control and social distancing protocols became key factors on site.

The response

Work to complete the project included:

A new build modular construction with pad foundations

Installation of glazed partition walling

Construction of new stud partition walls and suspended ceilings

Sourcing and completion of all floor finishes

Bespoke hospital furniture was manufactured and installed

Full mechanical and electrical installation

Helix CMS ensured the furniture and hygiene solution requirements for the project were appropriate and fulfilled the needs of end users including patients, and hospital staff.

The highlight

To be part of delivering support to the NHS in the COVID-19 pandemic was a project the Helix team felt very proud to be part of and showed great tenacity and resilience to deliver this project under difficult circumstances.

“I just wanted to personally pass on my thanks, the team led by yourselves have delivered an excellent high-quality project that we all should be proud of. Please pass on my thanks to all the subcontractors and staff involved in these projects.”

Duncan K. B. Taylor, Director Of Estates, Facilities & Development
