Building a better community
Back in September 2021 we coined the term ‘Eco-Social Value’, and armed with a new strategy in-hand, we established, launched and outlined our purpose and a new way of working, that goes beyond bricks and mortar. Because at Helix CMS, we take our corporate, social and environmental responsibilities regarding the needs of our employees, clients, sub-contractors and stakeholders very seriously.
Eco-Social Value is at the heart of our business. We make it our mission to recruit on our values and ensure that every member of staff at Helix CMS understands and works by the Helix DNA - our brilliant team is proud of their purpose to support the community. By doing so, we have a collaborative team that are all pulling in the same direction to achieve excellence in construction, every time.
As a forward thinking and modern company, as well as delivering projects to only the highest standard, the focus for our team is always to consider the benefit to the wider group of people impacted by our projects, now and in the future. We are committed to having a positive impact on the people our projects effect and the environments in which we work, ensuring we leave a lasting legacy through our work. We call this Helix 360.
Building a better community
Every single member of the Helix CMS team is proud to deliver only the highest quality healthcare facilities for the people and communities to which they belong. At every stage of a project build we are mindful to consider factors that affect people beyond the bricks we lay - we consider patient safety, staff efficiency, environmental factors and patient and staff well-being at every turn.
Since our inception, we have worked on a number of projects to help support our communities and provide facilities for healthcare professionals, hospital staff, patients and visitors. But our work here isn’t done, we still have lots of plans in the pipeline and partnerships to explore, continuing to work with the local community is a top priority of ours.
Spreading smiles with WISHH Charity
As a company dedicated to delivering healthcare projects in our local region, we couldn’t think of a better place to focus our efforts and support than WISHH Charity, and are currently in the process of becoming an official corporate partner of the charity.
‘WISHH’ stands for working independently to support Hull hospitals - which is exactly what we do at Helix CMS. As an independent construction company, our sole purpose is to build, provide and deliver facilities that support and have a positive impact on healthcare professionals, patients and visitors alike that use the facilities day-in-day-out.
To help spread smiles and brighten stays across Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital’s children’s wards, we made our first charitable contribution to WISHH Charity, donating money to support their Easter appeal, helping to keep children staying on the wards occupied and entertained - such a lovely idea and we were proud to be able to support the appeal.
We’ll also be running for Hull’s hospitals in the Run For All 10K in June - several members of the Helix team will be representing the Trust and supporting the WISHH charity’s ‘By Your Side Appeal’.
You can donate and help us raise our target here.
Rooted in Hull
Rooted in Hull is a local urban farm with the community at its core. A charity providing space for growing, sharing and learning about food in the heart of Hull city centre.
With a focus on ensuring they are environmentally and sustainably focused, Rooted in Hull’s site incorporates future-thinking environmentally sound technology such as reed bed water filtration, solar energy and electric cargo bikes to make local deliveries from the farm. Their innovative and eco-dedication really resonated with us, aligning with our values, we knew we had to work in partnership with this brilliant local business.
Helix CMS reached out to Adrian Fisher and his team in December 2021 to work together on a Christmas project. Joining forces with Rooted in Hull, we provided 20 hampers of fresh and sustainable fruit and vegetables from the Farm Shop, hand-delivering to deserving families across the city of Hull, just in time for Christmas.
In 2022, we’re looking forward to learning from their outdoor sustainability efforts so we can apply their knowledge to some of the outdoor areas on our future construction projects.
Random Acts of Kindness Day
We jumped at the chance to help spread a little kindness, as part of the annual Random Acts of Kindness Day celebrations. The Helix team decided to surprise the incredible Hull Royal Infirmary staff with goodie bags full of sweet treats and drawings by local primary school children, to help brighten their day.
Helix CMS are dedicated to delivering healthcare construction projects and our team has worked hand-in-hand with nurses, doctors, hospital staff, cleaners, consultants and medical assistants for 2 years now, witnessing first-hand the invaluable work they do.
As a gesture of goodwill and to show our appreciation, on Random Acts of Kindness Day we returned and visited healthcare staff on the projects and wards our team built and delivered, including the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Elderly Assessments Unit (EAU) and Ward 36 & 37.
Make it Wild & Zero Thirty
There’s no doubt that Hull Royal Infirmary’s new multi-million-pound Intensive Care Unit (ICU) that Helix CMS delivered, is a huge leap forward in the provision of quality care to critically ill patients, arguably becoming one of the most enviable critical care facilities in the country - but that’s not the end of the story.
One thing that’s really important to us in all of our projects is the notion of giving back. While we can see the benefit this amazing new facility brings to the local community, we also wanted to continue our contribution towards the sustainability of the Intensive Care Unit.
We partnered with Make it Wild to donate a dedicated woodland area in North Yorkshire, commemorating the opening of the new Intensive Care Unit at Hull Royal Infirmary in December 2021. This woodland supports the Hull University Teaching Hospitals ‘Zero Thirty’ agenda and will contribute towards the sustainability of the project, reducing the facility's carbon footprint today and in the future.
