Community Diagnostic Centre: Enhancing Healthcare Facilities and Empowering Communities

Works have begun on the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust £19m Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Scunthorpe, as part of government launch plans to boost use of independent sector capacity to cut NHS waiting lists.

This remarkable project located in Scunthorpe’s town centre has already secured the World Design Award 2023 and it’s a pleasure to be working in partnership with Alessandro Caruso Architects (ACA) to deliver one of the first purpose-built Community Diagnostic Centres in the country - representing a significant milestone in improving access to essential services.

From spreadsheets to steel structures going up, the first phase of the project is well underway and it’s great to see the new facilities starting to take shape and our vision come to life – working in partnership with Alliance Steel Services and Tekconstruct. Quality is not just about meeting specifications; it’s about creating spaces that enhance lives and communities. From the materials we use to the craftsmanship we employ.

With every project that we deliver, we recognise the transformative power of collaboration and innovation in building healthier, more resilient communities, something our partner ACA are familiar with. We’re at the forefront of delivering purpose-led projects and our latest ‘one-stop shop’ is already on track to serve our local and wider communities – providing them with the best facilities in the region.

Using our progressive thinking, we’re collaborating closely with our partners and envision a facility that will not only streamline healthcare delivery and meet the highest standards of functionality but is also designed to prioritise patient comfort and convenience. From the layout of the facility to the accessibility of amenities and support services, this CDC will create a welcoming and reassuring environment for patients undergoing procedures.

Designed to improve patient physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as providing support for the NHS, this new health centre will revolutionise residents’ access to critical healthcare – providing a range of diagnostic services closer to home, in the heart of Scunthorpe city centre. The first-class facilities will provide patients with vital checks, tests and scans -positively impacting and benefiting the local community, creating capacity for an additional 146,000 appointments a year.

Using our expert healthcare knowledge and experience in delivering specialist healthcare equipment with clinical precision, the CDC will be built and fully fitted with specialist equipment, providing diagnostic services including MRI / CT scanners, ultrasound, X-rays and blood tests.

By providing convenient access to essential diagnostic services, the centre will play a vital role in improving early detection, diagnosis, and treatment outcomes for patients. It will alleviate pressure on larger healthcare facilities, ultimately contributing to a more resilient and sustainable healthcare ecosystem.

By bringing essential healthcare services closer to home, we're not only making it more convenient for residents to access care but also facilitating early detection and treatment of medical conditions.

Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure that the CDC meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and sustainability. From innovative design concepts to meticulous construction practices, every aspect of this project has been carefully planned and executed to provide an exceptional healthcare experience for our community.

We see all our projects as a catalyst for positive change. Our commitment to innovation, collaboration and excellence sets a new standard for healthcare infrastructure and developments. Moving forward on this project (and beyond), we remain dedicated to leveraging our expertise to leave a legacy on our wider community. Delivering the Community Diagnostic Centre represents more than just a construction project; it’s a testament to Helix CMS’ dedication to enhancing healthcare facilities and empowering communities.
