Spreading festive cheer: supporting Back to Ours’ Christmas Shindig

At Helix CMS, creating meaningful social value facilities and experiences is at the heart of what we do. This holiday season, we’ve partnered with the incredible team at Back to Ours, a Hull-based charity, to support their annual Christmas Shindig event. This vibrant celebration brings together over-65s from Hull’s underserved neighbourhoods for an afternoon of music, dancing, entertainment, and festive fun.

To help spread the holiday cheer, Helix donated 150 festive goodie bags for Shindig attendees, each packed with teabags, biscuits, chocolates, and a special touch - a heartfelt festive note or drawing from pupils at Hymers College. These goodie bags are designed to bring warmth and joy to attendees, reminding them they’re valued and appreciated during the festive season.

“Our vibrant Shindigs are designed to provide a delightful escape for the over-65s in Hull’s underserved neighbourhoods,” shared Louise Yates, Artistic Director and CEO of Back to Ours. “They offer a lively afternoon filled with music, dancing, entertainment, and endless fun.”

Combatting loneliness through connection

Events like the Christmas Shindig are more important than ever. In Hull alone, an estimated 12.5% of adults report feeling lonely often or all the time, with over-65s being particularly vulnerable to isolation. For many attendees, this event is more than just a festive celebration - it’s an opportunity to connect, feel part of a community, and improve their emotional and physical wellbeing.
